Sneak Peek! December 18, 2009

What If…

What if the primary mission of the church is not to help the family and the number one priority of the family is not to go to church?

What if they are both designed to work together to show a generation who God is?

IT’S NOT EITHER / OR.

IT’S BOTH / AND.

The world may be “going green” but in Kid’s Quest, we’re going ORANGE.  Early next year, Kid’s Quest will be launching a new logo to reflect our ministry philosophy to bring church and family together for a child’s spiritual growth.  We believe that two combined influences can make a greater impact than just two influences working independently.  So as we end 2009 and are writing our ministry’s goals for 2010, we’re looking for ways to THINK ORANGE.  Church leaders who THINK ORANGE…

When you THINK ORANGE, you rethink the way you do ministry for children.  Why the color ORANGE?  What does it mean to THINK ORANGE?  Watch for our official logo launch in early 2010 to find out!  Here’s a sneak peek at the new logo:

Can’t wait?  Want to know more now?  Pick up Think Orange by Reggie Joiner in THE BOOKstore or online to learn the Biblical basis for our approach to ministry and guidance on how to develop your children to be fully devoted followers of Christ.

Give The Gift Of Quality Family Time December 14, 2009

Most parents want to raise children with good character and values.  Many struggle to find the time and the means to get the job done.  Where do you start? What do you say?  How much time will it take?

Family Times Virtue Packs are designed to help equip parents with easy-to-use tools to make the most of everyday moments together.  These tools are based on the biblical model that teaches that the home should be the primary place where a child learns about God.

Here’s what the bible says to parents about teaching virtues to their children…”Impress them upon your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up,” (Deuteronomy 6:7).  Family Times Virtue Packs provide activities to be used once a week during each of these four family times - Meal Time, Drive Time, Bed Time, and Morning Time.  All of this is designed to give parents simple ways to help their kids grow in faith and character.

The resources you will find in the Virtue Pack are designed to be strategically placed within your home as reminders of a specific virtue and its related principles each month.  They should be placed in the location that corresponds with the time they are to be used.  These pieces will be constant reminders to you and your children and help you to prioritize each of the four family times.  As you go through the virtue pack you will notice that it introduces you to all the pieces and explains the concepts in more detail.

The plan is based on the Hebrew method of teaching children found in Deuteronomy 6:7.  It helps parents reprioritize four significant times that are routinely within every home: Bed Time, Meal Time, Drive Time, and Morning Time.  The tools included do not involve preparation nor do they have to be pulled off a book shelf.  They are used during the four significant family times.  Each tool reinforces one of the four times of day, and helps the parent maximize their time and fulfill their intended role (counselor, teacher, friend or coach).

New packs come out monthly to coincide with the same virtue being taught in elementary classes.  Available in THE BOOKstore for $10 each.  Previous months packs are currently on sale while supplies last for $7.50.  Packs are timeless and can be used at any time and independent of attending Kid’s Quest.  These make great stocking stuffers and family Christmas gifts!

Coats For Kids December 4, 2009

I’m not quite sure how it happens.  If it didn’t happen to me every year I’d say it was an urban legend.  But this time Snopes.com can’t help solve this mystery.  Perhaps you face this same scene in your home?  There’s a chill in the air and it’s time to pull out your family’s coats.  You walk over to the coat closet and as you slowly crack open the door you are shocked and horrified by the sight before you.  The coats…they’ve multiplied.

Where did they all come from?  How did we accumulate so many?  When I close the closet door do they secretly call out to other coats to sneak their way into the closet, too?  And the sad truth is, not only has my family collected a closetful of coats, but every coat hook in my house is also full and even some of the backs of chairs serve as permanent coat holders!  How did this happen?

Thankfully, there’s a solution to my dilemma that can also serve as a lesson to my kids about helping others.  This month, the virtue we’re teaching in elementary classes is Compassion: caring enough to do something about someone else’s need.  One way my family can demonstrate compassion for others is by giving away all the extra coats we no longer need to other families who could use them.

We have a wonderful ministry right here at MBC called The Clothing Shop that can help facilitate to make sure my extra coats get to those who need them most.  So through December 27, Kid’s Quest’s missions project is to collect offering and unwanted coats to give to The Clothing Shop.  Look for coat collection bins at our check-in stations.

Coats do not need to be in perfect condition.  Nothing goes to waste!  The Clothing Shop coordinates with other organizations so that any items that can’t be used “as is” are either mended or recycled for reusable parts.  So grab your kids and go on a scavenger hunt in your house to uncover all the extra coats lurking in your closets.  Then share with your kids how giving these coats to others is one way we can live out the virtue of compassion.
