Thanks to you who have kept up with the Edge here–we are now on facebook and will close this page out soon!
A worship community. Sunday mornings at 10:47 in the MBC Tysons Smith Center.
Thanks to you who have kept up with the Edge here–we are now on facebook and will close this page out soon!
-Thanks for praying for my Dad after 2 surgeries he had a really good night last night. The first night we got a call about 3am to let us know there were complications. Second surgery stopped the bleeding from his sternum but that put his recovery a day or two behind. He is still on lots of monitors & meds but continues to improve!
Thanks to Martha and Kishore for stepping up to lead Easter weekend. They did an awesome job with some necessary last minute changes.

p.s.- I am out for my Dad’s heart surgery (aortic valve replacement tomorrow morning) and would deeply appreciate your prayers for it, his recovery and safe travel home for my brother and myself.
Coming up this week at the Edge community - Lon continues his series “People Jesus Met, (and this week) Part 34 – The Woman at the Well (Being Witnesses For Christ)”. This has been such a thought-provoking series but it has to be more than just challenging our intellect — we have to act on it. We have to be doers, sowers and under-rowers. At the Edge we have the chance every week to pull people from the outside, in. Reach out to someone at work or the gym. Call someone and ask them to join us at Easter. Email someone and tell them about the online services upstairs.
Dan Rebeiz is leading this weekend and here is the set so far…HOSANNA (Brown, Baloche), CENTER, EVERYTHING GLORIOUS, SWEETLY BROKEN, GLORY TO GOD FOREVER & the offering song- I HAVE A HOPE
Don’t forget the Easter Communion service, 7:30 pm in Tysons auditorium next week! (That’s Thursday night) Its an explanation of the seder into communion. Great music is planned, gifted singers and musicians are rehearsing and tuning up…
Part of being a witness for Christ is living it out but we need to bring people from the edge of their disbelief (or non-belief) this Easter. Someone is one ask away from saying “Yes to the Lord!” but you have to ask them in. Pray about who you need to ask to church — right now. Act on it. Right now.
Livin’ on the Edge — Don
Are you thinking about someone who might need to come to our Easter week? We have an Easter Communion at 7:30 in the Tysons auditorium. This year, Stephen Katz, with Jews for Jesus, will be taking us through the significance of the Seder and then we will take communion. We mix music and these considerations to set our consideration of what Easter should mean to us as believers! This is a great all campus and community worship event you don’t want to miss.
We will have the Edge at 10:47 am in the Smith Center per usual. (We are asking our regular attenders to come Saturday night 6:30, or Sunday 7:30 am or 12:30 to make room for many visitors at Tysons.
Please be in prayer for our chance to introduce them to the person of Jesus Christ at Easter–do your part too–bring someone to the Edge community.
This weekend–Martha is leading and we are planning to sing–For Your Name, Marvelous Light, Remain, There is Nothing Like, Tear Down the Walls. The offertory special is Peace with just Martha and Louis. See you there!

With all the talk and busy-ness surrounding the second historic snowstorm of 2010 it will be good to get back to the worship business! The snow was wild and wonderful. It completely covered everything. We lost a young oak tree and it took out a neighbor’s pine on the way down. Our willow lost two limbs as thick as my thigh.
In the midst of that white completeness, in all of the sta puf wonderment, our holly tree was full of holly berries. Too late for Christmas but it sure was impossible to miss t vivid contrast. Hundreds of bright, red berries in the pointed, dark green leaves could be seen from the street. Then robins came…dozens and dozens of fat robins. Here, at the end of the storm, God had already provided for these migrating, “insignificant” birds to feast on the berries. And they did. Flying into the limbs and somehow dodging the sharp leaves… Over and over until there were no berries at all. Not even one red ball left on the crusty, white blanket below the now all green tree.
God always provides. And in the midst of the storm we can’t see that He has provided for us–but today was a great reminder that He even cares for even the smallest of creatures. There will be more storms. Maybe even another historic one that tops this one in our lifetime. But He cares for us – before the flurries fill the roads, in the midst of the fierce, winter winds and after the storm has quieted to the sun’s reign –He cares for us. He has already provided for us.
See you Sunday at the Edge–
Don
McLean Bible Church
We are preparing for what may not happen with things that have already happened!
In spite of another “historic level” of snow predicted this weekend, worship will still happen at McLean Bible Church. The Creative Arts Team is rehearsing for the weekend service in the main auditorium, the Edge team rehearsing in the Smith Center and the morning and Frontline services are being edited for the internet broadcasts that will happen at each of our regular Tysons service times. I am amazed to see how quickly we can mobilize everyone with such speed and focus.
Earlier today we recorded Lon and Todd’s weather explanation, greeting and announcements and then they chose videoed sermons that will air. Then audio, video and Internet staff was moving as fast as technology will allow–confirming, double-checking, questioning, triple checking, then reordering the bytes and pieces. All of those things are being assembled, recorded and readied by 10 pm… or 11 pm… or whatever time it is tonight when we finish. There is discussion that sleeping bags may need to be brought in (and which couches may be the best to sleep on) just in case.
I am looking at a stage full of singers and musicians that are worshipping—these performers that may not perform, this lighting that you may never see, and audio that may not be heard in the auditoriums unless we do the live services. If the weather breaks, we will be ready to do services as usual. If it prohibits us from getting to the various campuses and we shut down the buildings–you will be able to see the Internet broadcast because MBC’s staff is fully devoted to provided you with excellence because its what we believe. We pursue core value number 8 - Everything we do must be done with excellence. (Colossians 3:23-24)
We had a “historic level” of excellence today (and tonight!) So honor the people that serve the Lord to bring you excellent opportunities to worship. Either here or online join us for worship Sunday. Even better–tell someone to tune in!

You might be an Edge-neck if…you are reading this blog.
And if you are paying attention to this you are probably just the kind of person to help me build this community at McLean Bible Church. I am searching for a core group to bring ideas and implement them to build community. I am looking for “post Frontliners” and “Almost or Empty Nesters” to make up the team. The Edge is basically half of each demographic and its time to bring people together to see what God has in mind for the Edge community. (Like my youngest daughter used to say’ “Let’s make it more gooder!”
Email me if you are prayerfully interested.

Lon is finishing up on his 4 part series on the vision and values of McLean Bible Church this weekend. Its been three calls to action for all of us. Three messages that define us and remind us of who we are and what we are about. I would encourage you to download the messages and listen to them to get them in the forefront of your church life. It’s powerful stuff. It’s how we should live. It’s how we should focus our energy for Kingdom good.
In the meantime, here’s the lyrics from one of the worship songs we’ll sing…
May I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross
May I see it like the first time standing as a sinner lost
Undone by mercy and left speechless
Watching wide-eyed at the cost
May I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross
–Think about it!
Martha’s leading at the Edge on Sunday. She always brings the best of who she is. Be there for the final message to go into the new year!
