“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law ?” And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'” This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'” On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40 NASB)
Let’s talk about priorities. Who receives your focused attention? What is at the top of your daily list of things to do? According to Jesus, our love for our Lord should occupy our affection, desires, thoughts, and actions. The LORD our God is first, and after that, we should love others (our “neighbor”) as we love ourselves. As a disciple of Christ, each one of us is to love as Christ loved: our Father first and others second. Jesus modeled getting away for prayer with the Lord, and we should follow suit (Mark 1:35). He served and sacrificed for all, and did not expect the same in return (Mark 10:45). Loving the Lord with all of our heart, soul, and mind is not just committing the first part of our day to prayer with God, but ALL aspects of our day. Will you love Him with all that you have by orchestrating today around His priorities? Will you love others with the same selfless love that Christ modeled? Make the Lord and His mission the most important thing today.
