It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. (1 Timothy 3:1 NASB)
In our passage today the Apostle Paul writes to help Timothy, a young pastor, select quality leaders in the church. Paul begins by saying that church leadership is a noble responsibility. Then, over the next twelve verses, he shares a demanding list of requirements for those who would serve. Solid character and holy living are non-negotiable requirements for those leading God’s church.
The standard for church leadership is undoubtedly high, but as Paul has already reminded us, serving as a leader is good. Our church, like every other, desperately needs godly leaders, and through the years, God has blessed us with incredible leadership. Each of the leaders in our church needs your prayers as they seek to carry out the mission God has given them.
Pray today…
That our church leaders (Lon, elders, staff) would live lives above reproach and lead well.
